Human Connection+

As we look ahead to 2023, one thing is clear: the need for human connection will only continue to grow. In a world that is increasingly digitized and automated, it's easy to feel disconnected and isolated. But the truth is that we are social creatures at heart, and we need meaningful interactions with others to thrive.

Last night a few of us gathered at a friends home to watch the Banshees of Inisherin in his really awesome home theater. While somewhat grim, the film was beautiful and filled to the brim with complexities that became fuel for amazing conversations. Conversations held in person. Not on Zoom. Not on social media. Immediate, contextual, relevant. As we continue to emerge from pandemic lockdown and as social media’s dominance begins to unravel, I feel we will all thrive more when we experience each other with real human connection.

Here are a few predictions for 2023:

  1. The rise of remote work will continue to drive the need for virtual social connections. As more people work from home or travel for work, it will be important to find ways to connect with colleagues and clients online.

  2. The demand for community-based events and activities will increase. People will seek out opportunities to come together and connect with others in person, whether that's through volunteering, club meetings, or social events.

  3. The importance of mental health will be recognized on a larger scale. As the stigma surrounding mental health issues continues to dissipate, people will be more likely to seek out support and connection with others who can relate to their struggles.

  4. The use of social media will evolve as people seek more authentic and meaningful connections. Rather than just posting pictures and updates, people will use social media to have real conversations and build genuine relationships.

Overall, 2023 will be a year of continued growth and change, but one thing that will never change is our need for human connection. Let's make an effort to prioritize and strengthen our relationships with others, both virtual and in-person.
